Bleeding At the Mouth...

legiles Dec 21, 2007 02:53 PM

Today we purchased a plated lizard for our reptile loving friend. We're very excited about having this new addition to our family but when we got him out to put him in his cage here at home, we found his mouth to be bleeding. We don't know why this is. He butts his head against the cage and we thought maybe that was it. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

It may be just "nose" rub, or in your case mouth rub. Was the lizard in a cloth bag for the transport home? It may have tried to chew on the fabric and abraded its mouth during the exitement of transport. You may want to keep the sides of the cage covered and place it in a quite spot of the house til it acclimates. This is a standard practice for more nervous herps to quite down. Hope it turns out OK.
