Tentacled Snake--Info Please

gaboon101 Dec 26, 2007 04:50 PM

Could anyone give some care info on tentacled snakes? I am trying to find info on the water to keep them in. I understand that it is fresh water, but temp? Also, acidity levels if anyone knows. Any other info would also be appreciated. Thanks

This is species Erpeton tentaculum. They have them at the SanDiego Zoo so if you contact the zoo they may be able to give you husbandry information. Do you have this species and/or know where I can aquire them? I've been looking for years.

I keep mine in roughly 78-82 degrees F., water PH is roughly between 6 and 7, they're really not that hard to keep. Just dont feed them GOLDFISH. Rosy reds, feeder guppies, and mollies do the trick. slow water current, throw in some drift wood or peat moss to acidify the water a bit, ummm... Cant think of anything else.

I find a product called black water extract works well to keep pH low...also, good water quality is a must! They are prone to fungal skin infections in poor water quality. Lots of submerged branches /rocks/plants stimulate natural behaviors, and barbs, danios and bettas work well as feeders as well.
