ALBIGULARUS BLACK THROAT MONITOR

rock31 Jan 06, 2008 08:19 PM

I kinda had a feeling he was......the lines just showed up recently which led me to believe he wasnt a savannah.....plus his throat was black which made me think the same....

He looks like he is in very bad shape to me. Dehydrated and under fed. Is he a W/C? Maybe go over to the monitor forums and post that there and ask some questions. good luck

He is a black throated monitor (Varanus albigularis), and probably wild caught. He is also quite skinny for his species. Try feeding him more insects (they make up most of a blackthroats diet in the wild) and eggs. To help with shedding give him a deep soil or soil-sand substrate. I find that mixing in a little sand helps hold a burrow. Besides helping his shed it should also make him feel mor secure.
