Kukri snakes-Oligodon sp.

Royreptile Dec 31, 2007 06:51 PM

Does anyone in the U.S. keep kukri snakes of the Oligodon genus? I've always been fascinated by this genus and I would consider them to be attractive captives, yet I do not know of any in captive collections in the U.S. nor have I seen any for sale in the classifieds.
For any that do keep them, how could one locate a pair? And what kind of husbandry suits this species?

Hi,

Dan "Oxyrhopus" of DTS Herps (on the Classifieds) is the guy to talk to. He posted about having an O. formosanus a while back, and last I checked a year ago he still had it. I tried to scrounge some up and tried to get people to import some, but it didn't work out.

I've kept them in same conditions as my king snakes, with no hibernation, they like a deep substrate, as they like to burrow .
mine would accept live pinkies and chicken egg beaten up, out of a dish.
I found them easy going low stress animals.
I kept mine and handled them with no problems, but a FOAF was bitten quite badly by one, for the size of the snake that is.
Good luck finding a pair.
