Cory Cats in frog tank

burmeseman07 Jan 04, 2008 06:41 PM

I have a pond in my tank for my 2 dumpy frogs. It is a few inches deep and they go into it every night. In a message below someone said that putting cory cats in the pond would help keep it clean. I have a filter in it already, but I like the fish in the pond. I already have a gold fish in there and the frogsdo not bother it. My question is, do you think that the frogs would try to eat the catfish? If they jump on him, and he stings them, would it kill my dumpys? Do you think it is worth the risk to put one or two of these in the pond with them? Any info would help. Thanks-
Jeremy

I wouldn't. I have a few corys in my amazon tank. sometimes a cory needs to be taken out for hospitalization, and I have to handle it.... They are spiny enough, with pectoral and dorsal spines to puncture your frogs if they were to eat them, and having kept dumpys myself....I wouldnt put it past them. I'd say play it safe ad set up a separate tank for them... they are fun, easy fish.

coreys actually don't do well in tanks with shallow water (i've tried) plus they have spiky things on thier dorsal fin that are extremely sharp. i've gotton pricked by it so i can only imagine what it would do to the frogs. guppies would work, they may even breed.

Ive got a male and a female, buti just cant get them to breed. Any tips?

otis07 Jan 07, 2008 07:56 AM

all treefrogs need rain chamber to breed. it's pretty self explanitory. if you have a pair that might work ,but they generally do better in groups. for a pair a 20 high would work, maybe a 15. don't let the water temp go below 65F, put about 3 inches of water in and lots of aquatic plants. next you need to add the rain. you can add a pump and then hook it up to pvc with holes and then just have it go in a circle. google rain chamber and you will get a bunch of results. devin edmunds has a really good book on treefrogs that explains all this stuff.

A light cycle wouldnt hurt. even tropical areas experience light cycles.

otis07 Jan 07, 2008 11:43 AM
