gtpythonmaster Jan 05, 2008 09:56 PM

I just went today 01/05/08, to the White plains reptile expo. after looking around for a while I found 2 nice rough green snakes. I bought 1 for $15. first it was calm, and like an hour later it started opening its mouth really wide and bit at the plastic on the microwave container he was in. he tried biting my finger. then I took him home. he kept dtriking the glass in the tank, he wont calm down. please tell me what to do, someone.. thank you.

You can't train a snake.
Some are agressive, some aren't.

Handling might eventually calm it.

But it looks like you're gonna need to take some bites.

Wow, I have caught about 20 to 25 Rogh Greens in my life and have never had one show the slightest agression towards me.It seems like strange behavior for that species. Well keep working with it and have some patience. Maybe it will change and maybe not. Only time will tell! Good Luck!

Also, do you have lots of branches and cage furnishings for the snake to climb in and around. He/She might feel more secure with ample climbing areas. The a very arboreal and like to lay on branches in the morning and the evening, they cruise most of the day in between.

Yes I keep him in a 24'' screen cage. It is very high and I put branches and a long wood branch that I got at the reptile expo.

Have you been interacting with this snake since you brought it home? You know, taking it out of the cage everyday! If so, try to let the snake settle in to it's new surroundings. Assuming it's well fed leave it alone for 4 or 5 days, maybe even more. Then when you handle the snake , handle it for brief moments at a time. Hopefully your snake will get used to you interacting with him and you can gradually spend more time handleing him.
Hope this helps
