Need Help and to Vent!!!

KevinM Jan 14, 2008 07:41 PM

I need help folks. Our plated has lost a chunk from the side of its tail!!! It appears to be an old scar that has decided to slough off while its in shed. Any home remedy suggestions til I can get it to a vet?? I need to vent because being familiar with snakes and purchasing reptiles in general, I should have passed on this individual. It was the biggest, most beat up one at the expo, but my daughter fell in love with it. The wound looked to be an old burn scar that appears to have decided to fall off. I dont want it to heal up and then come off next shed.

The flip side is its eating better all the time. It ate two ground turkey meatballs last night. Speaking of which, how often do you guys feed, and what quantity??

Thanks

All I can suggest is if it is on a lose substrate take it off that, and give some anti-biotics so it doesn't get an infection.

I have just changed my plateds diet and now stick to a tight schedule of.

Monday - 10/15 large Crix dusted with Calcium
Tuesday - Fruits (such as different types of berrys and bananana)
Wednesday - Morio Worms (as many as they eat) Dusted with Calcium
Thursday - Fruits
Friday - 10 crix, then topped up with as many morio as they want dusted with Nutrobal
Saturday - Fruits
Sunday - 2 Fuzzy mice (or 2 chunks of chicken the same size as fuzzy mice)

Thanks Ronst3r, thats basically the advice I got from a herp buddy of mine whose wife is a vet. He suggested antibiotic ointment without any pain reliever in it. I also appreciate the info on diet/quantity. To be honest, mine would no way eat that much on a daily basis. Last night it ate two raw ground turkey meatballs about the size of a hopper mouse. I will offer some fruit tonight. It has not touched crix or silkworms since day one, both canned left on his feeding plate. He also didnt eat live crix, but this was pretty early when we just got him.
