Torn upper lip on Ringneck

jimmy5871 Jan 16, 2008 02:14 PM

My RN has the first plate from the center of the upper lip loose and hanging. Since it just ate 2 weeks ago, shed 1 month ago and there has been no fights, was the last meal too big and split the lip?

The snake salivates heavly when I touch it, also quite calm when holding it's head

Do I cut off what is hanging? Or wait for the next shed.

Thanks...........

I'm usually inclined to keep wounds clean and let nature take its course on minor injuries, but this is one that might call for a vet to put in a stitch or two - hard to say. I guess it depends on how much of the lip is hanging off or if its scabbing together well on its own. You might try that first-aid superglue stuff, of course being extremely careful to apply only a tiny bit and let it dry while you're holding the snake's mouth open (again maybe something best done by a vet).

Good luck,
Billy

Thanks, the tear wasn't that big. It was only on the surface.

I was just about to post that nature did it's job and the RN ate a (small) anole last night.
