Humidity in turtle rooms?

Matt-D Jan 19, 2008 03:04 PM

I currently have a collection of over 60 turtles in a room in my basement that I drywalled about 3 years ago. By now of course, a good chunk of the drywall has rotted and there is mould in the room. How do some of you in more northern climates have your rooms for larger collections done up? I'm in southern Ontario, Canada so the winter months is the cause of the mould. My plan this summer is to tear down all of the drywall and put up concrete board which will cost around $200 CAD. I'd like to install an air exchanger as well but that's another pricey investment. Anyone have any insight or suggestions of any other measures I should take?

Matt

they have a waterproof drywall, I think it might be called marine drywall, or is that what you where refering to as cement board, a friend of mine used it when he built his fishroom (lots of aquariums) in his basement and then over that he used a special paint used for waterproofing, he used that on the walls, ceiling, and floor, also are you running a dehumidifier?

Concret bord is expensive, nut it will last you forever. If possible I would concrete board then tile. Find tile at discounts on closeouts, make your on color or pattern scheme. But then again , I live in the states (Ohio). Not sure what costs to do this would be elsewhere.

Another option may be (not sure of the name) But it's the white panels they use in bathrooms. I belive its like 15 dollars a sheet (4x8). Its moisture proof.
