Thanks ive caugh some almost pure black ones they have a very pretty shine ot them.

Whereabouts are you located? That's a beautiful coachwhip, I love it when they're almost all black like that. A couple of us on here are still trying to track down a completely melanistic specimen, that would be something to see.

That snake came from east centeral Oklahoma. Ive a coacwhip that was pure black except for the belly.

Those Oklahoma easterns are some good looking snakes. They seem to have more black in them than from any other place within their range save maybe northern arkansas. I'm going to have to make a trip out there next spring maybe.
