We used to have a large group of buddies that talked and shared pics and such... it was real enjoyable there was a lot of knowledge between us all. Maybe if they see some activity they will return

I HOPE SO

Satanics are very cool little geckos, I have never kept any myself just henkeli, are you working with just this species?

Barkely, male uroplatus henkeli

eve, those really were the good ol' days.

speaking only for myself, there were some other forums that came up and had real good discussions on them. at that point, i began to lurk a little more around here than post. for another point, i have never been a fan of the format of the kingsnake forums, a little too old fashioned for me.

there was a good crowd and i remember it being one of the most active forums on KS, but many of "us regulars" ended up elsewhere.

and unfortunately, i eventually had to make the decision to no longer keep geckos.

phantasticus were definitely my all time favorite species though.

Glad ya popped in buddy yeah it has been awhile that's for sure. back then you were the santanic gecko KING, lol geesh your guys were always having youngsters , you did well.

NOW.... I know alot of our geckos lovin friends went eleswhere, but I have to ask out of curiosity, you say this format is kind of old fashioned??? How so.. what do you mean

It's always helpful to learn what people want and pass it on...

I was sorry to hear you had to give up your geckos, at least for a while, you did such an awesome job, I hope you return to your beloved hobby soon, but wish you the best with your career for now. Take it easy Mike.

well, to answer your question, in these forums, the topics dont "shift" around when new comments are made. that is probably the biggest problem i have with it. so if someone comments on a topic that is halfway down the page, few notice it. and not everyone will know enough to make a new topic in order to keep things on the top.

i know people have things against it, but i prefer the typical phbb forum to this format. aside from what i just mentioned, having "sticky" topics and whatnot keep from the forum clutter. for instance, i have contacted the kingsnake people to offer my phantasticus caresheet. no response from them. but you and i both know that probably a third of the topics in these forums(not just uroplatus)ask the same questions, over and over. hence the importance of "sticky" posts. people are constantly asking where to find such and such care info, what size tank for x number of species y. what plants to use, etc. you get the point. it's one of the reasons i mostly lurk around here anymore. you get new people coming along, and most of the conversation has been covered ad nauseum in previous posts. i can say that one of my primary reasons for "leaving" (more so switching to lurker status) was the aforementioned problem. the other forums seemed to open up a much more interesting dialogue, and had people contributing ideas from around the world (tends to be mostly americans here, and no offense to us, but there are europeans with great knowledge to share).

i guess that about covers it.

Mike, I appreciate your input and thoughts about the forum, thanks for answering. Always helpful to know what everyone is thinking /would like to see different, even if things remain the same, it can be helpful down the road.

As far as you posting your caresheet, again I think it is excellent, I can see how much of yourself/ time, and experience, you put into creating this. I also know you had much success, and some sad times as well achieving it, this all enabled you to learn so much about this incredible little gecko.

I am going to ask the (SUN GODS) hhehehehe, that shine the HEAT down on this awesome Kingsnake site , if we maybe can get your "abridged" (quick reading version) made into the first sticky note here on the uroplatus forum. We could maybe let them know you have a longer version if so desired.

Your so right people come here and ask the same info over and over and always are in need of an excellent care sheet.
Maybe we can get something going and more of our experienced keepers can create other uroplatus care sheets that we could select and keep as stickys

Lets give it a WHIRL for the sake of the GECKOS I will get back.
Thanks my gecko lovin friend, You have a way of turning things right side up, lol , (joke)

Normally I'm only active on the Leopard and Rhacodactylus boards, cause those are the two species I have, but I occasionally just wander around reading the other forums out of curiosity, hence being here. I must say that I agree with the other poster's response here; this forum is terribly old fashioned in how it works. Topics should pop back to the top when posts are added to them, it should show multiple posts one after the other instead of having to click a link every time to get to the next post, stickies (or at least links) with caresheets on every board for every species would be nice, and for crying out loud, add the ability to edit posts you've made! Basically, modernize the whole thing. phpBB would definitely be a good place to start; not sure if it allows for editing your posts after you've made them or not, but I would expect it to, given that it's been in open-source development for 8 years now.
