Compatible species?

littlestdekker Feb 01, 2008 05:41 PM

I have been fortunate enough to obtain a 50 gallon (tall) aquarium and I'm in the process of doing some research to figure out what species I would like to keep. Two questions/options about my future vivarium:

1). I've read that some of the smaller species of day geckoes can be compatible with treefrogs as long as there is plenty of space and the species are of a compatible size.

2). Is it possible to keep 2 species of treefrogs together? Any recommendations for arboreal species?

For both of the possible scenarios, I will make sure to find species that are compatible in humidity, temperature, and caging requirements...and that sizes of all animals will be equal so that nobody is eaten/hurt. I'm a fairly experienced herper, but all of my setups are single-species and set up for function, not aesthetics, so this is new for me! Any species recommendations that anyone has will be greatly appreciated. I'm very open to hearing opinions, and if you think that either option is a bad idea, tell me!! Thanks in advance.

P.S. Forgot to mention that I'll ensure no species are toxic to one another!

My answer to question number 2: It really depends on the species, In my opinion I think it is better to have two of the same species than two different ones.

Oh yeah I forgot to add If you pick whites treefrogs, make sure they are similar size because the larger frog will eat the other frog.

Neither two species of hylids nor a species of frog and a species of gecko are typically compatible. Exceptions may occur but they are just exceptions. If you like animals, experience has shown the amphibous sector of the herpetocultural community that you shouldn't mix these ones.
