Black Telescopus dharas hatching!

BillyBoy Feb 06, 2008 07:23 AM

On day 74, the first egg pipped and this morning the first of the babies is out and looking alert, active and TINY!! Two more have pipped and should be out by tonight or tomorrow. I lost one of the babies last night right out of the egg though. Found it stretched out with it's umbilical still attached to the inside of the egg. I guess now the fun part of trying to feed these tiny worms starts!

BTW, does anyone know of any other Telescopus keepers that have successfully hatched and raised babies? I can't find ANY info on them anywhere.

Billy

Sorry about the one you lost

Thanks Declan123. The five remaining babies seem to be doing good with all but 2 out of their eggs now. I also have another 5 eggs cooking in the incubator ( my female double clutched!). Hopefullly these little guys will be able to tackle day old pinkies. Otherwise I will be collecting hatchling anoles and geckos from my yard.

Off the hook Bill! I can't wait for you to get them feeding either! Congrats!
As for any Info on raising babies good luck, there's barley any info out there about keeping adults as you know, write it up as you go I guess.

Thanks Nate! The final count for the first clutch ended up being 4. I lost another one a day after it hatched. It too, had a bit of yolk still attached after it emerged from the egg. All four are looking very strong, alert and active and one of them even took a few swipes at me this evening. That's a good sign in my book. Once they shed in a few days I'll get some new pics and try them on pinks and/or lizards. I'm positive if I can get them started, they'll do just fine. Now I can't wait for the next clutch to hatch!!
