I caught a nice ringneck today.

blupanther Feb 06, 2008 06:08 PM

I was flippin tin on my lunchbreak today on an empty lot behind the building I was working at in Boca Raton, FL and I found a little southern ringneck. He's black with a medium vibrant orange belly that darkens to a dark florescent orange at the tail. The neck ring is bright orange and complete. I was actually looking for kingsnakes, but I'll post a photo later for those of you interested in locality pics.

Here's the pics, sorry for the delay. I brought him home to take pics and show the kids, then released him back to his original home the next day. The pics are sub par cause I had to use my sister in law's camera(I sat on mine in honduras).

nice find! I love the red many of the southern and western subspecies get on their belly. Most of the Northern's have just yellow. Thanks for sharing.

Thats huge compared to the ones I have caught which are the length of a thumb

Thats a great looking ringneck the ones I have caught have been dull colored by ringneck standards other than nice neck ring

Are you sure they were ringnecks? Some other little snakes, such as species of Tantilla and Storeria, also have pale neck rings and are more brownish than ringnecks are.

Thats a good question . I now am not actually sure. I see them every now and than they are very dark colored but with orange ring on neck.

Next one I catch I will post pic before letting it go. In warmer months I find them in my garage they are so tiny they crawl in through tiny space I have between garage door and driveway.
