ID a classroom pet

Hi! Can anyone ID this turtle? Thanks! I don't know too much about turtles, is he looking healthy?

You have a Northern White lipped mud turtle, Kinosternon leucostomum leucostomum.

white lip mud and he looks fine to me. im not an expert with muds. definitely a male though, that tail is huge. shallow filtered water with some floating plants to hide under would do him alright. I'd give him a large smooth rover stone to haul up onto with a heat light over it just in case there's a slight chance he wants to bask.
