are there any morphs of dumeril boas? I've seen some that are more orange or more grey, but is there anything like albino or hypomelanistic? I'm asking because I bought a baby dumerils in August and I noticed that it has a large-ish spot under its chin that looks like it has no pigment. Its sort-of transparent looking. I don't have a canera to post pictures, but I'm trying to figure out how to post pictures with my cell-phone. If my snake does have some type of genetic mutation, how would I go about proving the gene? If you have any thoughts on this then please post something. or If you have pictures, or know of any morphs with this species, please let me know. Thanks.

hi there...I got my first Dumeril's Boa back in December (adult male) and mine has a spot on the chin too...I guess that's normal for them, but since I don't have much experience with these guys, maybe someone else can verify that.

LOL, it's a normal part of Dumerils, or only the three of us have them????? How many more would you like of this new morph??? I'll make you some sweet deals for a morph this rare!! LOL, take care

Paul

Well if it's unique, I make number 4. Although, with the four of us with the same markings in the same spot, I'm thinkin' it's a normal trait of the species. My question is does it fade away or does the "birthmark" stay with the snake it's whole life?

superdave1781 Feb 13, 2008 08:51 AM

well, I don't know how old my guy is, but he's approx. 5 feet, and still has it...it's interesting cause I can't think of any other snakes that also have a spot like that.

All of mine have it, and it hasn't faded on any of them or increased in area either as far as I've noticed. So, I guess the question is, why is this spot there, what/if any point does it serve???

dbnmg

steve76 Feb 16, 2008 07:52 PM

Sorry. I Posted the picture without the message. All of my Dum's have the same spot. I think it has to do with all of the inbreeding of the original imported Dumerils. As for as Morphs below is my male with almost a full stripe head to tail.

Thanks for looking,

Steve
