Oriental Fire belly subspecies?

oid Feb 10, 2008 04:12 PM

Hello,
Does anyone know if there is more than one form of Bombina orientalis? I'm not talking about all the other Bombina species, but other varieties or types of orientalis. Thanks!
AAT

Russian, Korean, and another which I can't remember. There is also the Giant FBT.

Magnificent color just great not a FBT you find easily hope you breed him/her

otis07 Jun 12, 2008 07:16 PM

thanks
when i got mine only one was that bright green color, the other two were the typical dark green. a year later they turned bright green like that. not sure why, while it probably has a bit to do with genetics; though environmental conditions obviously have somewhat of an impact. i have found their color varies with the lighting. the stronger/brighter the light the better the colors. i used to have indirect light, then i switched to a low watt florescent, how i have one of those energy effecient incandescents. they are super bright and produce almost no heat. my frogs all brightened up when i started using this bulb.

lol yes they love light. What do you feed yours as still very green?

Do you gut load the food? I plan to keep mine outside this week well in backyard which has screened patio in large plastic bin with screen cover in hopes they breed

Thanks

otis07 Jun 13, 2008 08:27 AM

i feed mine crix. i only feed them once a week, but they are extremely fat right now, even more so than in the pic. i have no idea why cause they don't eat that much. i gut load the crix w. fish food and oranges. are your toads sexed? good luck breeding them, inform the forum if you have sucess!

otis07 Jun 13, 2008 06:29 PM

i have no idea if it does anything for their color, maybe. i just use it because of it's nutritional value. how many toads do you have? keep us updated on what you do and how it goes.
