Escaped California King

torguysnakeyguy Feb 17, 2008 08:35 PM

almost two weeks ago, my 6 month kingsnake escaped from his cage. when i got up in the morning i realized it and searched my room everywhere. i live in a two story house, and my bedroom is consistantly the warmest (hopefully making it desirable for him to stay in). i pretty much stopped looking for him, think that if he doesn't want to be found, he won't be. he was also fed the day before he went missing. my hot water heater is out in my garage (extremely unlikely that he would be there) and i've searched under all other appliances (dryer, fridge, stove). any ideas on how to catch or attract him would be greatly appreciated.

Well I am not sure how to attract him out but I have a similiar story. I lived in a two story house and had all my snakes in my room. Well one of my Rosy Boas got loose and was NO WHERE to be found. I searched for weeks and never found it. Well about 3 months later out in my garage I found him. Somehow he made his way down the stairs, out a automatically closing door out to the garage, climbed up a shelf rach where i had glass mouse cages and smaller breeding cages. Well it had made its way into one of the breeding cages and ate the mother mouse and about 10 pinky mice. He was SO STUFFED that he could not even get back out of the cage (Which was a plastic shoebox style with a metal lid that held the food and a water bottle in it).

second escapee was gone for about 2 months, my 5 foot gopher snake. Well we were out of town for vaction and my grandparents were watching the house. (My grnadpa is EXTREMELY scared of snakes). Well He sat down in the recliner chair and the gopher snake actually hissed and struck at him, it was hiding in a ficus tree that was next to the chair.

So if you do not find him right away I would set up a cage with alot of mice in it, maybe not that he can directly get into but can attract him to that area. Maybe put them in a closet and put some shirts or something in there on the ground. Wait until night time to look for him under the shirts or in the closet. make sure nothing that is too heavy is in there for him to hide under and make it easier on yourself to keep looking for him. Good Luck in finding him..

its been 3 weeks since i've seen any signs of my snake. i've tried the flour trick, the tape trick, staying up until the middle of the night, and it seems like nothing is working. i'm almost positive he is still in my house cause the weather has been fairly cold. any idea when i should give up and get another snake?

Well, my little girl escaped in October... and I just bought another snake two weeks ago. I miss her like crazy, but like Zach told me, if you don't find the snake within the first week or so, you won't find it by looking. You'll cross paths at some point.

I'm just hoping I cross paths with her before I need to move out of this house in a year or so. >_<

Good luck to you.

Get a plastic coke/water/drink bottle and cut the top off that you usually drink out of. turn it inside out and tape back together. put a pinky inside the bottle and thats how i catch most of my snakes that are loose. The more you put out...the more likely you'll find him. It works on hermit crabs and leopard geckos too!

2 liter or smaller? I think I may try this... I wouldn't mind having bottles with pinkies in the laundry room, pantry, closet, bedroom... Heck, if I could find her, I'll put some in the attic. O.o

My little girl's been gone so long, do you think this might still work for her?

If she's hungry, it'll work.... i use 2 liter for the bigger snakes and smaller bottles for smaller snakes. hope it works for you!!! i almost swear by it
