babies frilled and shedding problems

chlamydosaurus Feb 24, 2008 07:17 AM

several months ago, I was lucky enough to hatch my first baby frilled. they are 3 months old now, and yesterday I first noticed following problems: 3 of them show inflated digits. one of them have some dried digits that look dead and ready to fall. most of them have problems with shedding their tails: there are like some pieces of skin ara stucked to the tail, and the part of tail below look also inflated or dead.I suspect it is a problem of failing humidity. I put an hygrometer in terrarium and it show 39-45% in the area near the spotlight, where they spend most of the day. i used to spray thm with water once at morning, before leaving to work. have you any suggestions? what can I do?

up the humidity a lot!! give them a larger water dish and mist them 2-3 time a day!!

thank you, I also add a heat rock under the water recipient,to raise the humidity, I hope it will help. can I replace the water towels with aspen bedding so I can put a deep layer of aspen , that will absorb most of the water when I mist , so all the bottom will not become to wet?

all you really need to do is mist the lizard. then let him dry out. if u dont that to can make problems. the best humid. is around 60% or thats what i found in my case!u dont need a heater for the water! they get in the water to cool off if it is hot then they will not get in! this is a pic. of the same animal. sadly i lost it over the winter last year:,(

hi, Jock thank you, and very nice pictures!!!
of course there is also an other water dish that I let unheated, but there are days I leave my home at 7 am and come back only later in the afternoon so I can only mist them twice a day. thank you again for your detailed information. I hope it will help me saving the remaining babies. I still have 7 of this clutch, and 3 that are 4 months older that did not present any problems....

Your case seems to need immediate aatention. I would soak the animals every day when you get home. You will need to do this until they can get rehydrated. May take a few weeks. Lost toes isnt a big deal, but the strees it will create may be problematic. If they strat loosing weight hen you need to separate the sickly ones from the still healthy ones.
Good luck... hopefully it isnt a bog deal, but you need to get it under control immediately, or they will all die off.
