Delta Dash known shipper-still possible?

AbsoluteApril Feb 25, 2008 11:54 AM

Hello,

In the past I've shipped with NW AirCargo but I wanted to become a 'known shipper' with Delta Dash. I know after 9/11 they were not accepting new known shippers for live reptiles/snakes. I filled out the known shipper request form advising I wanted to ship live snakes. They are now requesting the $50 fee to process my application. I am wary of sending the fee without knowning if I could even become a known shipper (I *assumed* they would tell me if it was even possible before requesting the fee, silly me!). Does anyone know if it is still possble (or done it?) to become a known shipper with Delta? I don't want to waste my money and have them tell me 'sorry!'.
Thanks,
April

I have heard of known-shipper status but since Delta has not allowed reptiles to be shipped by their "Pets First" method I do not know why you would need to be a known shipper. Pets first is reserved for dogs and cats and I think birds. Not "lower" forms of life like reptiles. They used to do it but not anymore.

If I need to ship something I just call Delta Dash and tell them I need a package shipped and schedule the flight. I just drive the box to the airport and they take it. Be aware that no shipper guarantees live animal delivery. Even Delta Dash only guarantees that the package will get there. They have insurance but it does not apply to the animal being alive upon arrival. If the package is lost for ever you can get money. Of course, 2 weeks later and they will send it to you and just refund your shipping fee.

Delta has relaxed their post 9-11 crap about being a known shipper. Schedule a flight, take it to the cargo office, show them the contents if they want to see, and it goes to where ever it needs to go. Get ahold of your local Cargo office and ask. I don't think many offices will turn down business now-a-days, at least mine doesn't.
