Dumerils vs Boa constrictor

igottabigboid Feb 26, 2008 12:52 PM

I was wondering how many people that own Dumerils also own boa constrictors? Can those of you that know tell me the differences between the two, temperment, size, habitat requirements, growth rates, breeding, or any other positive or negative comments you would like to add. Thanks

Hi,

I own three bci and three dumerils, both trios of 2 females and 1 male. All are adults over 4 years of age. My bci females are about 7 feet and around 30 pounds. My male is about 6 feet and 7 pounds. My dum females are about 5 feet and 15-20 pounds. My male is about 5 feet, and 5 pounds.

Dumeril's in general are not as heavy bodied as most bci and tend to be shorter overall. The bci are extremely food oriented and usually more difficult for me to handle. The dums although a bit more timid, are also more reliable with their movements.

I personally (could you tell) prefer dum's to bci, but I only have experience with common boas, if you want a smaller boa you could look into some of the dwarf boas like Nics. I hope I helped, I think I forgot some of the questions you had listed though....my memory is weak today!

Thanks for the info. I have been itching to get another boid and have been looking at the Dumerils for a while. Any excuse to get another snake is a good one!!!

Yeah...don't remind me! I have more snakes than our local reptile store, and I could have bought a car with all the money I've invested, but yet I still have room for more!

It is an hobby bordering on obsession!
