Sulcata Tortoise: White poop?

treedtexas Feb 26, 2008 11:38 PM

Juvenile sulcata tortoise (9-13" pooping white. Aquired these sulcatas from some people who was feeding them only mazuri pelets and he had them in gravel. When I first got them they pooped out some gravel and now pooping white poop. Any thoughts?

The white stuff is urates, a waste product from protien. They'll pass some urates a couple times a week under normal circumstances. If it happens more than 2 or 3 times a week, you have too much protien in the diet. Urates should be liquid-like, or soft like toothpaste. If they're hard or gritty, soak the tortoise, because its dehidrated.
