I own an adult plated lizard that I've had for about a month. This morning I was letting him eat a banana, taking bites off of it, and he started coughing and drooling a little bit. He's never done this before, and I'm hoping it was just because maybe he ate too fast. He did it several more times until he was done eating. He seemed to have a lot of saliva in his mouth.

I know it's an odd question but I just want to make sure that I shouldn't be concerned if it isn't anything serious.

Maybe getting a little smokers cough? Or getting a little old and needing a walking stick? lol....sorry.. I've never really heard of a platey coughing :S I know mine sneezes alot but thats down to the substrate. Maybe it liked the banana that much it made the platey drool then the drool went "Down the wrong hole" :S

I would not worry to much unless the problem continues, but reptiles with a respiratory infection tend to drool. I used to think that my tree boa had a respiratory infection, but it turned out that he was really trying to vomit on me because he'd already use up his supply of stink. It was gross, but although annoyed, he was fine.

Thank you! For the info and the humor.

He seems to be okay now. I think he did get a little too excited about the banana, haha! He does tend to eat to fast when it comes to fruit. Thanks again!
