I just purchased a yesterday...and i would like to know what the best substrate for him would be...and if there was anywhere else to get a UVB light besides a pet store...another thing is he had an injury while at the pet store...he ran into the glass of the aquarium real hard and damaged the front of his mouth...they were treating it with something...not sure what...but to me it looks bad...not bad as in not healing...just bad that it happened...when i get him settled i will take a pick of it and post....he is eating well...drinking fine and is very active...nice green color...with purple under his chin...which i thought was cool...he is a little feisty when you first pick him up....but stroke his head a min or two and it is like he goes to sleep in your hands....any info you guys can give me about the little guy would be appreciated...

keep at it with picking him up, get him used to you handling you, but be careful so as you dont stress him. (NEVER hold him upside down.. heis not playing dead, he is struggling to breathe )

Snout damage tends to not heal properly. i have a cwd that has snout damage.. its not red and inflamed any more when she was in the pet shop running into the glass but its still deformed

one of my other cwd was bought from a boot sale.. can you beleive it.. in a tank with no power out in the open for 5 hours in winter... anyway.. he has snout damage to the extent one of his nostrells is collapsed.. he is fine now tho i suspect he is male due to the colouring under his chin. I have what i think are two females who do not have as impressive colouring.

But, yes, if you are in a room he cant escape from and has no where to hide that you wont be able to get him.. Take him out the tank, get him settled in your hands and maybe then put him on your shoulder (wear a sweatshirt) and walk around the room slowly just to get him used to you moving him around. never pick him up from above when he is skitty. always take him from the side.

Once he/she is nice and tame you will have LOADS of fun caring for them.. but feel free to ask any questions on here.. Do you have pics?

heres a pic of my two with snout damage, you cant really see it on the bottom one but you can just make out where it starts on Drake (darker one) as you can see, they are both fine and eat properly so no harm done

Mine is purple under his chin...dunno why I say "him" cuz I'm not sure...I will try and have pics tomorrow...his snout damage is fairly fresh...you can see his little teeth...but tears some crickets up I tell ya...lol..can the colors they have differenciate between male and female?

sometimes. i am not sure what sex mine are but the darker coloured one in my pic has purple, yellow and blue under its chin whereas the other and my third CWD are just yellow (i suspect those two to be females)
