RES, can babies live with adults?

gothicbambi Mar 06, 2008 07:22 PM

Hello there! I just got an adult female red eared slider, I was wondering if I could put her in my 90gal tank with my two little baby RES? Or would she try to eat them? Thanks, I'm new to turtles

She won't try to eat them, but she could injure them by stepping on them or accidentally biting them during feeding time. She could also bully them so they don't get enough to eat, unless you take them out and feed them separately. I suggest keeping them in separate enclosures until the little guys are at least half grown.

whats the size difference? if its a hatchling ide be careful. my female yellow belly laid eggs in her pond area and i didnt know about it until i found just the half eatin shell of one of her offspring at the bottom of the pond. even if they are a few inches in size difference they can cause bad injury to each other. Hatchlings have soft shells and are very vulnerable and aldults will try and eat just about anything.
