Just a reminder about Woodies...

THEY SURE CAN CLIMB!

I took my boy out for a few rays today...he's about 4" long. He was in a rubbermaid bin with 6" walls and when I went inside for all of 5 min. he escaped! I thought he was forever gone or perhaps picked up by our local red tailed hawk, but luckily 2 hours later my wife's keen eyes found him.

His escape is not a big shocker when you consider the stories of woodies climbing 6' chain link fences, but I was sure taken by offgaurd.

Many years ago as a boy I had a wild caught wood turtle . He climbed a2 foot rabbit pen and then a 4 ft chain link fence and escaped back into the wild .
Probally in my case a good thing as thats where this one came from and belonged .But 37 years later he remains one of the favorite reptile pets I have even owned.

they sure can. many years ago I had 2 hatcling spotteds and two woods. thought I would put them out for some sun, my rule was twice the length of the shell for the cages, that day it changed. both woods and one spotted turtle gone. I found the spottie and 1 wood. moral of the story is now all my turtles have very secure cages when out doors, also lost a spottie to a predator. you can never be to careful
