thanks. he eats very well, i always make sure he eats the baby food/CGD/calcium mix i make for them well some of it as much as he will eat while in my hand. and i feed him crickets. like i said i got him from a petstore on friday march 14th and they didnt have him in a good cage or anything. and they had a lamp on him. i thought he looks a lil thin. i have another crestie but its a hatchling. also i have 17 leopard geckos. i am working on getting more cresties. but i want them from breeders at shows. i dont like petstores personally i dont buy animals from petstores normally

I agree with the comment about being a bit thin, feed him a bit more if you are going to breed him.

It is an olive, not, in my opinion, a chevron. (Wish I had my girl's picture uploaded here, she's a wonderful example of a gold chev) Almost looks like a reduced pattern of some sort, maybe a reduced fire? Hard to say, but not a chevron, no distinct V shaped lines, ie "chevrons".

it may not be a great example of a chevron, but it's not a fire. it's all about the head color. since the head is the same color as the body background, it's a chevron. if you look at example pictures in the rhac book, the chevrons don't have perfect "V" patterning either. yours looks a lot like the guy on page 75.

i don't have any females at the moment so he won't be breeding till most likely next year. the only other crestie i have is a hatchling thats the size of my pinkie finger so it will be next year for breeding if i can find confirmed females for him. i inquired his morph on gecko forums.net and they said olive flame dalmatian. he gets darker than in his pix here those are from as soon i bought him home. i need to take new ones of him. pretty much i am new at crested geckos. i have owned leos for about 8 years now but now i found out that cresteds are very nice and easy to breed and care for so i have a new addiction in addition to my leo addiction lol.

warnersister Mar 18, 2008 02:03 PM

ONE person over there said flame - a person who specializes in leopard geckos. throw it out there on the pangea or ciliatus forums and see what you get. i still say not a flame.

yeah...i find the crested gecko morphs much more difficult than leopard gecko morphs. i am awaiting activation from those forums so i can post there.

warnersister Mar 18, 2008 06:15 PM

don't worry, they are confusing, there's just so many different colors and patterns, many cresteds don't fit neatly into one category, and new morphs are still being developed. and people's opinions on what constitutes a flame, harlequin, extreme harlequin, or super dalmatian differ greatly, it's all subjective. i really don't give my input on most morph inquiries because i'm usually as clueless as the next person, but this one i'm sure on. if you don't have it, i would recommend getting this book:

http://www.amazon.com/Rhacodactylus-Complete-Guide-their-Selection/dp/0974297100/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1205879096&sr=1-1

it's out of print and won't be available much longer. it's morph guide and pics can be confusing, but it has a lot of other good info on all the rhac species, and they are addicting. cresteds are the "gateway gecko" LOL

also, the other forums are much more active with crested folks, and user-friendly.

yeah i am going to purchase that book really soon and maybe a couple of other ones too...my gateway gecko was leopard geckos lol. i have seen alot of cresties that they are mixes of different morphs and they have charateristics of both morphs. i have some more pix of him now from today. they look a little different from fridays pix. here they are.

sleepygecko Mar 18, 2008 09:56 PM

No, I said it "could" be a "reduced" "flame", but you seem to have a real problem with everything I post anyways even though I've been around here a lot longer and have earned more respect. I do not "specialize" just in leopards, but seeing as how I HAVE a chevron crested, I felt I should join the conversation even as I was taking some time away from posting on the board because I am tired of the banter.

If you have a problem with my advice, please take it up with the moderators.

My history of advice and general caring can stand for itself, even in spite of this posting, which is so unlike my usual self.

Further apologies to the original poster, you came here for help and this is an excellent place for it, please do not be put off.

when i said that someone suggested it was a olive flame dalmatian i got that off of geckoforums.net not that i didnt see your post but i thought it would be a good thing for those to see what i thought and what someone else thought it was. crested gecko morphs are extremely confusing compared to what i am used which is leopard geckos. even leos confuse me sometimes. especially blizzard and patternless and bell and tremper albinos with telling the difference from them. and all the new morphs i am used to tangs and albinos and normals. i would like fancier animals but their lineage worries me with inbreeding and such to make them the morph they are. i am buying a really nice cage this weekend so i can get some more cresties soon just it disappoints me to see the females out of my price limit. i would kill to find a group of 6 females for about 500 dollars which i think isn't too bad. considering they dont cost alot to feed and care for and they are easy keepers so far actually alot easier than my leos. i guess i am one with my babies from my leos i never asked for high prices because i didnt look for profit from them. i just wanted them in good homes that knew how to care for them. in the past i have had some really nice leos come out and i wish i would have kept now but i didnt have room then for them. i hope this year my leos produce some nice babies once they start laying eggs. next year i have a really nice red orange leo male to breed with my hypo tangs so i should have some really high end babies out of them. thanks for any input

funny, i knew you would think i was talking about you, which is specifically why i used the phrase "over there" when referring to the poster. i certainly wouldn't call you a specialist, and as far as who has earned more respect in this forum, i'm not even going to go there. feel free to apologize for yourself, but don't apologize on behalf of others.
