feeding issues

n8te Mar 19, 2008 09:22 PM

I have two fat tails I've had them for about two years now and up until about 3 weeks ago one of my fat tails stopped eating crickets she will only eat wax worms the other won't touch wax worms and will only eat crickets. I was told to use wax worms as a treat only. Is it ok to keep feeding her wax worms only or is eating only wax worms bad for her.
I'm trying to keep from going to the vet but if I have to I will. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to get them both eating crickets again? Or should I just take them both to the vet?

Are they caged together or seperately? If they're together, seperate them. Many people feed mealworms exclusively to their AFTs and Leos so I'm thinkin' it won't hurt but if you want the one to go back to crickets try withholding all food for a week and then drop in a couple crickets and see if it takes them. Mine won't touch mealworms, not enough action I guess . They like the chase involved in catching crickets.

They are talking about feeding just WAXWORMS. To answer, no that wouldn't be a good diet. Waxworms are mostly fat and have very few nutrients. I would try stop feeding that one for a few days and try to feed crickets. Or even try mealies because they are close to looking like waxworms.

My bad. Must have been early. And you're right, waxworms are mostly fat and may be addicting to fat tails. As I said, it's best to stop feeding for a week and try crickets when you feed again. Good luck.
