Hatchet Face Tree Frog

Ironwarrior57 Mar 19, 2008 11:40 PM

I recently saw a hatchet face tree frog for sale at a local store. I've tried searching online and I can't find any information on them. Does anybody know a different name for them? or any information about them?

i could be wrong, but i think they also go by casque headed frogs?

try looking on google with that name and see if its a match.

if its something that is not really all that common in captivity, you may have to go to the Euro boards to get some answers.

good luck!

Triprion is a genus of casque headed treefrog that is not very commonly sold in pet stores. Much more common is the burrowing treefrog, Pternohyla fodiens.

I was supposed to get a group of 10 a while back and did some research. They are found in the same area as Dendropsophus leucophylatta (clown tree frogs) and Hyla punctata. Bog side swamps in south america. They breed on floating vegetation and lay their eggs on the submersed roots of these plants. Here is a 29 gallon tank that I set up for them, but they came down with a fungus before shipping, so I declined. I am raising up some clowns now to go in this tank.
