Whats the best way of taming?

drock1985 Mar 20, 2008 08:49 PM

What are the best ways of taming? I had some people tell me to pet him while he is in his enclosure until he doesn’t mind being touched. and other people say just pick him up and hold him for about 20-30 mins a day. Every time i try to touch him he speeds off. This is my first snake so if you can give me some tips it would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Sounds like he's a young one, so I'd just reach in and pick him up around mid body, not real quick, but don't second guess yourself either. As in, don't mimick a birds talon by reaching, stopping, reaching, stopping, etc. as you follow him around the cage with your "talon"(ie open hand). Most Dumerils aren't real hard to "tame".

Yeah he is about 3 to 4 months old. Every time i go in to grab him once i touch him his speeds off. and im scared that if i keep chasing him in the cage his gonna become stressed. his fast and he slithers right through my hand.
