You have wood chips/sawdust? Keep an eye out for poop daily, remove the poop and whatever amount of substrate is around it. You probably only need to swap out all of the substrate for fresh once every couple months. Make sure the substrate stays fairly dry and that all the waste you find is removed.

yea i thought about that but i really cant tell what is poop and what is not.. when i first got him he pooped on my hand and it was yellow and the sawdust/woodchips are yellow as well so im kinda out of luck

Generally, that yellow on your hand was pee.. yes it was solidified, but it mostly comes out like that. They also have brown poo, usually right with the yellow. I would say, if in doubt, scoop it out. It would be better to remove a little extra shavings here and there than leave poop in with your king.
