Home made crested enclosure

CodySedlar Mar 23, 2008 10:53 PM

I have a whole woodshop at my mom and dads so i have been making my own enclosures. I am goin to make a enclosure for a breeding trio. Im pretty sure that the size is going to be 2' wide 2' deep and 3' tall. Im going to make it out of plywood with a plexi glass door in the front with a screen top. Should I put some screen on the side as well for ventillation? Maybe the top foot of the side walls made out of screen instead of solid wood walls? I line the cages with FRP (the stuff thats inside fridgerators) to keep the moisture off the wood but I was wondering if anyone has had luck with sealing the wood so I didnt have to use the FRP? any info provided will be greatfully appreciated!
thanks

If you use several coats of poly ,You will find it gives you years of service. If you add screen that will allow you to mist from outside and the cage to dry out completely in between misting.Which will help with both mold and odor.It isnt absolutly necesarry but I much prefer it.

i was posting this to hopefully get around using the FRP but it looks like that is still going to be the easiest. Thanks for the info!

I was thinking about making the cage 2 feet deep and 2 feet wide and 3 feet tall with a plexi door in front for viewing purposes but on the top foot of each sidewall I was going to go with screen. would this be a good idea? thanks

Yes that would give you plenty of ventilation and maximize veiwing as well.
