discoloration on my skink

truthmassage Mar 24, 2008 12:03 PM

I purchased a pair of skinks a week ago. Now that they are adjusting to me and their new home I have had a chance to get a better look at them. One seems perfectly fine (Wendy) the other however has a large dark spot on his back.(Jack)..almost all of the torso where he doesn't seem to have scales. When I questioned his dark color at purchase I was told that he was shedding and his health was guarenteed. He did shed and now his head, legs and tail are a beautiful shiny bronze color but still the dark area remains on his torso. He has one or two beautiful scales in the midst of the dark area. Besides appearances he is active and seems otherwise to be healthy.

When I inquired with the place of purchase no one was able to give me any reason or history of injury that may have caused this. Should I be concerned for his tankmate? They were housed together at the pet store but I don't know for how long.

do you know ages? sex? I've heard of some females getting really torn up from breeding sessions where they couldn't escape the males. The males bite and hold the females during copulation on the back area.

When in doubt, take 'em to a herp-Vet for a checkup.

Too bad people still buy from stores, when you could pay 1/2 as much for a quality captive-bred baby.
