feeding my frilly

c0de7477 Mar 24, 2008 02:22 PM

i've been feeding my frilly phoenix warms.. (they are extremely high in calcium) and he SCARFS them down. he loves them, and he can eat tons of them (the worms aren't very big) but neither is my frilly. he's only a couple months old.

he could probably sit there and eat them all day, i usually give him about 10 or more every couple of hours or so (if i can)

i was wondering, should i just keep giving them to him until he can't eat anymore?

i've seen him throw up a couple of times because he ate so much. his belly is pretty big, but he just wants to eat and eat.

heres a pic of him. it has bad resolution [was taken with a cel phone]

oh, and i've also noticed that he LOVES his thermometer.. lol. i'm guessing because it gets warm so he likes to sit on it.

You actually can feed them too much, I would just give him as much as he can eat 2 times a day as a baby of 0-5 months, for 6-14 months you can do that 1 time a day. After that, once every other day or you can stick to once a day. Do not do it every few hours. Usually it will eat all it can and then hop onto the basking site, thats how you know how much it can eat, then do that 2 times a day for now. Even though they are high in calcium (worms), you still need to periodically dust them with a calcium supplement and herpative as much as necessary. I also hope you have a uvb light because all the calcium and vitamins are worthless without it.

OF COURSE i have a uvb light. and YES i do dust them. the reason why i asked is because the last time he threw up was because i let him eat as much as he could. i guess he just didn't know when to stop.

I DO know what i'm doing, thank you.

i just wanted to get another opinion.

don't get so hostile man.

Actually, not that you were being hostile, but thanks for your concern.

it's been a long night. x.x;

I'm sorry if I sounded hostile, I just throw those certain elements (Uvb and calcium dusting) into every post. I am glad you are well informed, but you would be suprised how many people make those simple mistakes that we experienced owners know and have known, so I always say it just in case. Sorry though, when people post I don't know if I am talking to a newb or some1 who knows reptiles but is trying out a frillie. Didn't mean any harm.
