finally, i have obtained a male spotted tutle!after a year and a half of half-ass searching and bugging everyone i know in the area who has or breeds spotteds,i've got him!man,i wish my camera was any good, because he is one of the most heavily spotted ones that i've personally ever seen.and as far as temperment and attitude go,he is the exact opposite of my sweet little female, parker.stinky has earned his name in the few hours i've had him, trashing his quarentine tank.i've never seen a spotted turtle move a brick before, but he put it where he wanted it.it only took him about 15 minutes to metermined turtle.ove it to the other end of the 20 gal long.he is a very determined turtle.i can't wait to put them together.sorry for ranting,i'm just way too excited.

remember, male spotteds can drown females in their agressive breeding attempts. don't know your turtles' sizes, and water depths though.

he's in a 20 long quarentine tank, she resides in a 75 gal, split 1/3 land,2/3 water, max depth roughly 5".plenty of plants,a submersed hide log,and rocks to climb on.lots of live grass shrimp, crawdads, and the occasional bullfrog tadpole for parker to snack on(her version of bon-bons,i guess.she LOVES the freaking things, just not too often;maybe 2 or 3 a month, when in season).i plan on introducing them in about 5 weeks, and i was wondering-do spotteds have a set period for breeding,or will they just go like rabbits all spring and early summer, like sliders or painteds?

man my spotted were like rabbits, well the male any way. you may need to set up a separate enclosure my male was way too aggressive and actually ended up harming some females, bit the back of there necks and actually took chunks of skin off, on top of stressing them so much they wouldn't eat or come out of hiding (I had a spot with 2 foot of sphagnum moss and she would burrow in it for days) I split them up and a few days later she was eating and fine. after some TLC the cuts healed but from then on the male was only introduced every couple of weeks.
