Two day gecko questions

jjenkins Mar 31, 2008 05:22 PM

Hi,

First, are they active/ interesting to watch? I feel like a lot of geckos hide away most of the time, like my golden geckos. I figure since these are day geckos maybe they will be out and about when I can see them.
Second, can you keep them in breeding groups if you have a large enough enclosure, or should you stick to pairs? I just got some 2' W by 2' W by 4' H screen enclosures: how many could I keep in here, say of gold dust days, peacocks, giant days, etc.

Thanks,

Jeff

Of the two mated pairs I find that my quads are more active or out and about than my laticaudas during the day in relation to the males. My female laticauda is just as social. However, all four have actively taken fruit mix or crickets that are finger fed. It is always best to keep pairs. Harems tend to promote aggression among the females and eventually one or more will not be able to thrive due to dominance. Those big screen enclosures sound nice, but may be hard to maintain humidity. Live plants and misting can help. They would be great for outdoor day gecko cages during late spring to summer. If you have access to some vertically oriented glass tanks, 20gal or bigger would be nicer for pairs.
