eastern mud, not eating

mudmuskkev Apr 01, 2008 04:45 PM

For the longest time i housed my male eastern mud and female razorback musk together, the got along quite well, but this past winter my razorback passed away from some disease that took action before i did. Ever since then my eastern mud has not had the same eating habits, as he was once a hog on the reptimen sticks, he wont touch him, and only sometimes will eat the feeder fish

Help! if someone has an idea what to do that would be great

Could you give us a little more details about the setup that you are keeping the turtle in? Size, water temp, ect.

Keep offering pellets, maybe even change it up from a different brand. I like Mazuri and Zoomed. Then maybe offer some earthworms and crickets. Im not sure if you mentioned it in ur post but how long has it been since its ate? If its an adult, it only really needs to be fed everyother day to maintain a healthy weight.

Currently in the US Navy so I have sold off my collection. But over the years I have had dozens of turtles, fish, geckos, and other lizards. Cant wait to get back in the hobby once im out though!

the water is kept at 65 degrees and is about 4-5 inches deep, the tank setup is pretty basic he has a basking area with a cave underneath, and some rocks for shallow areas, he actually ate a few fish the other day right after i put them in, but im going to try switching the brands of food stick

anything else you think i could change?

everything helps thanks alot

try small crawdads and grass shrimp if you can catch them,or buy them cheap enough.mine are junkies for freeze-dried krill, too.mine will hardly ever touch sticks(i've tried 4 or 5 different brands)but will go for tubifex blocks, fish, small pieces of raw chicken, and virtually anything freeze-dried.
