Blue, Rose, or Texas spiny?

Rosebuds Apr 03, 2008 07:01 PM

I am thinking of adding a spiny lizard to my group and wondered which of these are best. I am trying to put together an educational program, so it would be good if the lizard was tame enough to handle. I have read care sheet after care sheet, and there is confusing info. For example, how big does the blue spiny get, and which species are arboreal and which are semi desert? What sized enclosure would be best for each of these?

Any info or opinions would be great.

Based on my experience, spinys are not very tolerant of regular handling. Even brief handling is highly stressful. If you do regular / frequent presentations that involve handling the lizards, I wouldn't recommend a spiny. They make great display lizards, but are pretty much hands off.
