Just got new Tiger Sals !

superjustin Apr 08, 2008 04:27 PM

Here in north VA it is super hard to get tiger salamanders... but I now have TWO eastern tiger salamanders! I'm very happy to join the salamander community. I read thru some of the threads and this is indeed a great community with some real experts here.

I do have one question that I can't seem to find the answer to anywhere online...

Do Tiger Sals need their crickets dusted with Miner-All Indoor or similar vitamins powders? and if so how often?

I'll post pics soon! Thanks!

congrats on your new tigers. i think variety in diet is more important than dusting. crix, crawlers, meal worms, occasional pinkie, etc. if u do dust, maybe once every couple weeks. be careful not to overfeed, tigers eat non-stop, and can live for years

If you solely feed crickets, yes they should be dusted every third feeding or so. Use a high quality vitamin and calcium product like Herptivite plus calcium with VitD powder. As the prior poster stated, variety is always best. If you had to feed only one food, nightcrawler pieces would be the best as it is the most nutritionally complete food and does not require supplementation prior to feeding. Myself, I would avoid pinkies...except as a rare treat for a very thin animal.
