RETF Crash...911 help

zachattack Apr 12, 2008 02:13 PM

Last night actually 2 am i found my RETF lying in sleep posture on the bare dirt in a corner of the tank. Concerned because typically this is its most active time and she has been in good health for a year raised from a froglet. She was covered in dirt so i placed her in a shallow clean dish of ro water to clean he up and encourage her to vent but the dirt still clings to her. Her color is also much darker. any suggestions would be great.

i would take her out and put her in a temp. 10 gallon with papertowels as a substrate and maybe some leaf litter. make sure to keep it really moist, keep the temps in the high 70's. i wouldn't feed her anything yet, until she looks better, it probably will just stress her out. i wouldn't put a deep water dish in, when things are weak they tend to drown really easily. so a shallow water dish with easy access in and out is best. keep us updated!

Bad News...I found the culprit, but unfortunately it was too late she died. I have been out of the country for two weeks and got back 4/6. My roommate had been taking care of my animals, he keeps saltwater fish. We share fresh RO water and its marked on the top of the container and the salt bucket is also marked. The idiot swapped the tops on the buckets so for 3 days she and all my herps for that matter were misted with salt h2o. I happened to mist my face lightly tonight as i was misting the tanks and i tasted salt so i did it again then i went to the bucket and sure enough so was it. Hopefully the others will be ok.

ooh, thats a tough break, how much stuff was misted with it? at least you know what it was and you can make sure it doesn't happen again (even tho it clearly wasn't your fault).
