Different types of Frilleds

seiryu Apr 14, 2008 05:26 PM

So I am interested in getting a frilled dragon (or a pair).

I have read everything I need to know about them, but am curious about the different types.

How many different types are there. I have heard of New Guinea and Australian. I think the NG ones are the ones I thought I liked but I could be wrong.

The one I liked was more of a white/grey in colour.

That type is NG, think that's the one.

Anyways, do both types have the same tempers/skittishness?

Those are the only two types that there are. The New Guinea frilled dragon is a gray marbled color and is significantly smaller (2-3 feet). The Australian is more brightly colored and is about a foot or more longer than the New Guinea. New Guineas are easier to obtain and much cheaper (125-175 for babies). Australia has a law against the export of its wildlife so its pretty hard to obtain one. The ones I have seen range from 800-1200 and are almost never available. If you are going to breed them, the Australian would land you a nice profit, but you would need a larger enclosure. Ive never bred one but I believe they need a lot of space to do so, so keep that in mind and good luck deciding!

Thanks!

Ya, $600 is just a tad too much for me :P. So it seems i'm going with NG!

Size of the enclosure isn't that big of a deal though as I build my own.

Just about finished with a 6x5x5 enclosure for my Basilisk. MUCH more cost efficient than buying. I think had i bought mine that size, it would have been double or almost triple what I payed in materials.

I am pretty lucky, I have a reptile shop about 20 minutes away that sells 5x3x3 for a little under 300. I tried to make my own once, that was a mistake... Im definitly not handy.

Now was any of it Plexi-glass or glass (The tank you got made?)

Right now, I built the 6x5x5 enclosure, the 3 2x5 feet doors (In the front) are pure plexi and the side near the window is also plexi. The rest is Polyurethaned wood (To prevent rotting and to better keep humidity.

I can't recall how much I spent, but i think it was less than $250

Well I just see a bunch of parts and such and don't know how to put them together. I don't think my hardware store even had plexi glass. Its pretty hard when you dont even know where to begin.
