Water question

SabreHawk Apr 15, 2008 03:52 PM

I am getting a common snapping turtle and had a couple questions I hope some here can help me with.

All our house water is connected to our water softener, is that kind of water ok to use for the snapper? Also, is the fluoride in the water a problem for the turtle?

Thank you

I forgot to also ask, do I need to add dechlorinator since I have city water?

It is best to use a dechlorinator. The small amount of chlorine in tap water will probably not harm your turtle directly, but it can kill the denitrifying bacteria in his tank's substrate and filter. Otherwise, tap water is perfectly adequate.
