Axolotl gills turning white...

mountainlyon Apr 16, 2008 10:13 PM

Hello, I'm helping care for a friend's axolotl, and we noticed the gills are turning white insead of the usual pink. Is this something to be concerned about?!?

I have been feeding a few water snails from my pond to the turtles that live in the neighboring tank, so I dropped a couple in the axolotl tank also, but he didn't eat them, they're still cleaning the glass. I'm wondering if he could have caught an illness from the snails, then again he's used to eating worms from the backyard...

The other possiblity I read about is morphing into a salamander... What does that look like in the early stages?

Any thoughts or recommendations appreciated.

His color returned to normal on its own, maybe he was feeling a little under the weather for a couple days or something. I won't add any more snails in case they did have anything to do with it, he never did eat them, they're still cleaning the glass. Thanks anyway!
