Last spring when I put my Russians outdoors for the first time in their new outdoor pen, the male courted the female aggressively. However, I have seen no courting behavior this year at all. Does anyone know when breeding and egglaying occur with Russians housed outdoors??

It probably varies at different locales/climates/elevations, but is typically immediately after emerging from hibernation for my animals. That was in early March in my warm So.Ca. desert location. I see amorous behavior all Spring, but perhaps most vigoruous in the early Spring, and some amorous behavior in the Fall as well. When intromission occurs vs. "thrill humping" is hard to say, I have rarely witnessed the former. vic
