I was out herpin' along a canal in Davie, (South)Florida today and happened upon this little guy basking. He was actually basking with a friend, but it jumped into the water before I could snap the pic. Interestingly, they were "basking" in the shade. I guess they wanted to dry off without getting too hot. This may help with the debate below about whether they like to use a land area or not. I think it's best to always give the animal the option.

One additional note, his friend was not on the same rock, but on a separate rock about three feet away.

Nice shot man! It looks like a her though, not a him. My baurii's bask almost every single day, I think most people would be surprised how much they do given the option.

Mine have the option but rarely bask. Since I see that you keep 4.1, I wonder: do you house any of those together? If so: could it be that, instead of basking, they are retreating from the water for a different reason? I realise that some animals bask more than others, so I may well be wrong of course.
