weird death???

Buggzter May 02, 2008 06:22 PM

Hi all. I just had something VERY strange happen.

My husband has been ill for a couple months, so we sold a few of our animals since we couldn't feed so many mouths. YEsterday, a gentleman drove 3 hours and bought our Frilled Dragon who was less than 2 years old. She was eating well for us, though not TOO vigorously, now that I think about it... And she was drinking alot as usual. I didn't notice anything amis, really, except she drooled shortly after a bath two days ago to get some shed bits off of her.

So I just got an email from this gentleman, saying that she died! She was fine in the cage yesterday, apparently, after the car ride, but this morning she was gone.

I had put her in a cheese-it box for travel, and her body fit perfectly with an extra 3" so her tail could curl a bit, but she couldn't get around and hurt herself. And she showed no problems when she arrived apparently.

I really have no idea what to say about this! I'm shocked - we really loved that girl... Any ideas on what might have happened? Thanks...

Stress and maybe the temps were too hot or too cold for those 3 hours she was in the car?

Having the guy take it in a cheezit box wasn't the best thing either. She was probably scared and nervous.

Another thing could be when she got to the new home, he didn't properly take care of her but that is less likely as you say she died in 1 day.

She could have had parasites you didn't know of as well. Just throwing some things out there.

Not to be "anti-trust anyone" guy but I have hadsituations where people have told me that an animal I sold them died 1 or 2 days after the purchase. So I request them to send me a picture of the animal or send it back to me after freezing it. I am sure the guy is asking for his money back. I would ask for 5 images of the animal at different angles.
I dont think the transportation was the issue unless he left it in the sun. The box shouldnt have been air tight even if you sealed the top; unless you taped every corner. When I ship animals I always put them in a burlap bag or pillow case and then in a box or container.
So (in my opinion) you sold them a bad/ half dead lizard in which case he should have noticed and not purchased it. Or it died in some manner that probably wasnt your fault. If the animal was so stressed out that it died then thats not your fault. If it stressed out so bad that parasites took over then it would have taken well over 24 hours to kill it.

Food for thought...
