Guppies as Snapper food?

Rkonrad May 03, 2008 02:09 PM

Hello guys,

I typically spend about $6 a week on a stock of Rosies for my snapper (he was hatched in November).

I am considering breeding guppies for the purpose of substitution and saving a bit of cash. Would this be an acceptable fish alternative if I gut-loaded them? Has anyone done this in the past (with guppies or otherwise)?

Thanks

Hey, i have three AST's and i have had them for over a year and have fed them guppies and aquatic turtle pellets with the occasional serving of thawed out krill. and i havent had any problems whatsoever. i am unable to get rosie reds in my area so i have had to use guppies. i hope this helps.

mosquito fish work great.they are basically guppies, easy to catch, and breed like crazy.they get a little larger than guppies, too.my little ally just loves them, live grass shrimp,freeze-dried krill, food sticks(reptamin),and occasionally blocks of tubifex worms, crumbled into appropriate sized pieces.i raise the mosquito fish in my backyard pond.

What about bait store minnows? You can get 3 different sizes in most bait stores.
