Pixie questions

turbowasabi May 05, 2008 10:14 PM

hello, I was wondering if someone could tell me how old a pyxie frog has to be before one can sex them. Do females croak at all or is that also an indication of gender. At what point should i switch to mice? It seems the crickets aren't filling him/her up anymore. I know pyxies will try to eat anything they can fit in their mouths and at this point even a hopper would easily fit. If i do switch to mice how many is average for a frog between 4 and 5"? If anyone can offer advice I would be most grateful

I feed mine rodent no more than twice a month, and feed other items like crickets, roaches, nightcrawlers, krill, etc. in between rodent feedings. One rat is plenty. They should not be fed rodents as a staple because it can lead to health problems and early deaths. I do feed mine rodents, but keep in mind it is only a matter of choice. They do not HAVE to eat rodents, and can live happily and very healthy without them. I have also fed button quail as well.

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. Alot of the info out there that i have found has given the impression that it would be good for the frog to eat something with a spine, feeder fish or rodents and such. It makes me feel better to know that i am not neglecting him. I dust the crickets so he is getting some form of calcium. I really appreciate the info.

No problem. Like I said, I do feed rodents, but it is just a personal choice, not an actual requirement. I also sent you a message as well.
