Giant Mexican Musk

Teleport85 May 10, 2008 07:59 PM

I have got a hatchling Giant Mexican Musk turtle, he/she is a perfect little one. I'm just wondering if anything can tell me the stages of this guy's life to adulthood, i'm rooming him with 2 diamondback terrapins for now in a 10 gal. set up. They all get along (for now) and there all hatchlings. Any help? Need all the info i can get.

They may get along fine for a short time but soon that Staurotypus will become what it is...a real terror!
They do very well as captive hatched specimens, in fact almost too well. You have to be careful and avoid overfeeding.
They make fantastic display animals though as they are extremely responsive. But,the hatchlings are kind of shy at first. Once they grow to about two inchers they become much more outgoing and begin 'begging' for food.

awesome, what size tank would you recommend for 1 adult? He's small now, i've read they usually get around 10 inchs minimime, but also seen 12-15 inchs can be reached. Which is right?!

They can reach up to 14 inches or so. But most long term--or captive raised ones that I have seen are around 9 to 11 inches.
As for tank size, make it as large as you can. But you don't need to provide this for a few years.
