Are Heloderms noisy? Please respond.

eryc May 15, 2008 12:31 PM

Hello,
I'm just wondering if Heloderms make a lot of noise in their enclosures? I realize they are diggers, but are they constantly scratching and clawing in the enclosures? I ask because I hope to purchase some in the future and their enclosures will be near our sleeping quarters.
Just wondering what your experiences are (for Gilas or Beadeds).
Thank you.

They do sometimes spend a lot of time clawing at the sides of their enclosure. It can get pretty annoying if you are trying to sleep next to it.

not only do they scratch like nuts unless they are stuffed full o rodent...they eat like no tomorrow and it has to go somewhere. Even if they were cleaned several times a week I bet you'd still get woke up by a not so pleasant aroma now and then...lol Worked with many different monitor lizards and I'd have to say my heloderms are very similiar as far as noise and mess goes even though they're chillin mine are diggin a lot
....but then again gilas and beadeds are amazing animals and in my short time keeping them they've honestly been so facinating to me that the noise, mess, expense , and food bills been well worth it. So if I were you I definitely get som heloderms but recosider housing more than one or two in the bedroom unless your better halfs way into the caveman thing!...peace n happy herps
